Dametrius Walker, honorary Michigan captain, has unfortunately passed after losing his battle with cancer. Walker is a Michigan native and was a defensive line standout for Muskegon High School.

Walker dreamed of playing for the Michigan Wolverines but in 2020 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, which meant his football career was over. He battled his illness with chemotherapy and multiple surgeries for two years following the diagnosis which included the amputation of one of his legs.

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Dametrius Walker,” Michigan Football’s Twitter account stated. “Meechie was an inspiration to every member of our program and the Michigan Family as a whole. He will be missed by so many.”

Walker was an outstanding high school player for Muskegon who earned a 3-star ranking per the 247Sports Composite with offers from Kentucky, Michigan State, Syracuse and Minnesota.

The Michigan program invited Walker to Ann Arbor after he was placed into hospice care to spend time with the team. In the B1G opener, Walker was introduced to the fans who responded with a standing ovation for his bravery and support of the team.

Fans like Walker are what truly make College Football what it is, one of the best sports nationally.
