Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have a huge challenge this weekend as they host the Ohio State Buckeyes in a B1G game with major implications.

The Buckeyes have a great defense, but the offense can also present a lot of problems for defenses. The Ducks are very familiar with Ohio State’s offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, as he saw his coaching career take off because of his time at Oregon.

For Lanning and the Ducks, there are a lot of things that make this offense so tough to stop.

“They are similar to what I have talked about our team and what we hope we can be is that you can’t take away one thing,” Lanning said. “They are not really limited in what their strengths are. They are able to run the ball really well and able to throw the ball really well. Their quarterback can run the ball as well. You have to be aware of any risks you are going to be taking and is the risk worth it or not.”

One thing that Lanning think Kelly has done really well is playing to his player’s strengths.

“I think he has always done a great job of utilizing his personnel,” Lanning said. “He always finds a way to run the ball. I think that is something he doesn’t get enough credit for is his ability to run the ball. Last year when he was at UCLA, they were 1st in our conference in running the ball for many different reasons. He does a great job of changing tempos and using formations that you haven’t seen on film before.”

If the Oregon defense can rise to the challenge and slow down this vaunted Ohio State offense, college football fans could be in store for a classic similar to the Alabama and Georgia game out of the SEC.
