Dan Lanning knows how to deliver a rousing pre-game speech in a big moment for Oregon. That was the case a season ago when Lanning went viral for a fiery speech of epic proportions ahead of the Ducks facing Colorado.
On Friday, Lanning met with Pat McAfee to discuss an epic weekend ahead for Eugene. College GameDay will be in town and it’s a major top-5 matchup and the first Big Ten game of consequence for the Ducks.
McAfee referenced Lanning’s knack for pre-game speeches and asked if the head coach had his delivery for Saturday all lined up. Lanning said he’s still working on it, but he has some idea of his eventual direction.
“No, I don’t know exactly what yet. I’ve got a direction, I’ve got an idea of how we’re going to go,” said Lanning.
After that, McAfee asked how Oregon and the fanbase felt about the conversation leading up to the matchup. That’s something Lanning had zero time for, saying it’s all about the game.
“Who cares? Like, who cares? We could care less (about the talk). It’s about playing the game,” Lanning emphasized. “We’re excited about the opportunity to go play this game against an elite team, they’re really talented, it’s going to be a lot of fun, but we have a really good team, too.”
At a different point in the conversation, Lanning also said this weekend is “what college football is all about.”
“I’m really excited for our team and I’m certainly excited for our fans, this is going to be a fun one,” said Lanning.
As we get closer to kickoff, Ohio State is down to a 3-point favorite per bet365 in a showdown with massive implications. The winner Saturday night is likely to have an inside track to the B1G Championship Game and a potential CFP appearance.
