With only one week remaining in the National Football League’s regular season, the rumor mill is in full swing, and one name being commonly discussed among fans is Urban Meyer.

Last coaching in 2018 with the Ohio State Buckeyes, the 56-year-old Meyer has never coached professionally, but is one of the best to ever do it at the collegiate level.

On Tuesday, Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen, whose ties to Meyer date to 1999, when they were both on Bob Davie’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish staff, addressed the possibility of him making the jump.

“I haven’t seen anything about it,” Mullen began. “I’ve spoken to Urban. He’s very happy with where he is in life, but knowing the competitor he is, (it) would never surprise me to see him back on the sidelines.”

Beginning his coaching career at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1985, Meyer received his first opportunity to be a head coach with the Mid-American Conference’s (MAC) Bowling Green Falcons in 2001, which he parlayed into stops with the Utah Utes, Florida, and Ohio State.

Compiling a 187-32 record, he has won three national championships, two with the Gators and one with the Buckeyes, and captured seven conference titles, three Big Ten, two Mountain West, and two Southeastern, along the way.

Presently, there are three head coaching vacancies in the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, and Houston Texans, with the possibility existing for a few more spots to become available once the regular season concludes on Sunday.
