Danny Kanell makes major prediction for Will Howard’s offensive output at Ohio State

Danny Kanell has a bold prediction for Will Howard’s 2024 numbers at Ohio State. In fact, if Kanell’s prediction comes true, Howard is likely to be headed to the Heisman Trophy ceremony as a finalist for the prestigious award.
During a recent segment for CBS Sports, Kanell predicted Howard will hit 50 total touchdowns with the Buckeyes this fall. Only 2 players reached that number last season, and both players were Heisman Trophy finalists while one was the eventual winner of the award.
“Last year there were 2 QBs who had more than 50 total touchdowns: Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels. Jayden Daniels won the Heisman. Bo Nix was a 1st-round draft pick. I think Will Howard has 50 total touchdowns on the year playing in that system,” Kanell claimed.

That kind of production would be a big jump for Howard, but the number is not necessarily as high as it initially seems. Howard’s best production at Kansas State came last season when he finished the year with 24 passing touchdowns and 34 touchdowns overall.
There’s no denying Howard will have better talent around him at Ohio State, and Chip Kelly will dial up creative ways to get the most out of Howard’s talent through the air and on the ground. If Howard stays healthy — and plays deep into the Playoff — getting to 50 touchdowns is within reach.
As for his Heisman outlook, Howard is listed in the top 10 for the preseason Heisman Trophy odds but is off the lead a bit with ESPN Bet listing the Buckeye QB at +1600 for the honor. Meanwhile, the leader entering the year is Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel at +600.
Ohio State should have the team success to keep Howard’s name in the race, and coming close to 50 touchdowns would all but cement his case to be a finalist for the award.
