David Blough reflects on Purdue’s ‘Tyler Trent game’ ahead of visit from Ohio State

David Blough was the starting quarterback for Purdue the last time Ohio State visited West Lafayette. While it was Blough who helped engineer a massive upset of Urban Meyer’s No. 2 Buckeyes, it is not his performance that many fans remember from that game.
That game will always be remembered as the Tyler Trent game with Trent in attendance and ESPN’s College GameDay highlighting his story and battle with cancer. It’s something Blough said was “divine” and “ordained” to go down the way it did in 2018.
“I am a firm believer that everything that happened that night, everything of Tyler’s story was divine, was ordained,” said Blough. “It happened exactly how it was supposed with the College GameDay piece that was aired that morning, and then the attention on the game and then Tyler being able to — after having a rough week — be there and get to see us kind of accomplished what he had hoped for us was really special.”
Blough went on to point out many fans remember him as the QB who upset the Buckeyes but all fans remember Trent’s presence and impact. Blough said he would not have it any other way.
“And then obviously he was so brilliant and so smart and he was able to use the platform that he had been given from his voice to now impact others and raise millions of dollars for cancer research to share his story and his testimony,” Blough explained. “…Every encounter I have about that night is about Tyler and that’s what people remember and that’s — in my opinion — exactly how it should be.”
This week, @david_blough10 will join us on a very special episode of Ross-Ade’s Greatest Games.
Breaking down the huge upset over #2 Ohio State in 2018, Blough speaks about the incredible impact superfan Tyler Trent had on the team that night.
