Days after Dan Mullen called for full attendance at The Swamp, Florida football pauses after multiple positive COVID-19 tests

Florida has hit the pause button on all football team activities after multiple players have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The news comes just a few days after head coach Dan Mullen said he was hopeful the school would allow Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to be at full capacity for Saturday’s game against LSU.
Below is the statement released by Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin:
The University of Florida football team has experienced an increase in positive COVID tests among players this week. Out of an abundance of caution, team activities are paused as of Tuesday afternoon.
Head coach Dan Mullen has been in communication with football players and their parents, and I have had conversations with the Southeastern Conference office, last week’s opponent Texas A&M, and this week’s opponent LSU.
These circumstances will be re-evaluated by UF Health and the athletic department’s sports medicine staff Wednesday.
Florida was preparing to host LSU this week. The Gators are 2-1 on the season, coming off a loss to Texas A&M.
After Saturday’s loss, Mullen said “Absolutely I want to see 90,000 in The Swamp next week…The entire student section, it must have been 50,000 going crazy behind our bench today.”
There’s been no word whether or not the game will be canceled or postponed.
