With the college football landscape constantly in flux due to COVID-19, there’s a possibility the College Football Playoff could get pushed back.

The polarizing topic was discussed on Friday morning by reporter Heather Dinich on ESPN’s Get Up:

“I spoke to executive director Bill Hancock about five minutes ago, and he spoke words of caution. Nothing is imminent,” Dinich said. “Yes, they are talking about this, but talking about it is night and day different than doing it.”

Obviously, the NCAA and fans would like the CFP to remain on track with no modifications. However, nothing is certain in these unprecedented times and all options have to be explored.

A handful of games have been taken off the docket this week due to COVID-19 concerns, including games with teams in the CFP hunt, such as No. 3 Ohio State’s matchup vs. Maryland, No. 1 Alabama’s contest against LSU, and No. 5 Texas A&M’s game at Tennessee.

The CFP is currently slated to have the semifinals on Jan. 1, followed by the championship game on Jan. 11.

A potential delay to the CFP has been rumored as it would allow some conferences wiggle room on their conference championship games in order to reschedule games that have been canceled. For now, it sounds like nothing is definite with goals to keep the current dates in place.
