Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit address Michigan’s offensive struggles ahead of Wisconsin game

Michigan is off to a rough start offensively in 2019. The Wolverines haven’t played a Power 5 team, and yet, they are ranked eighth in scoring and 11th in yards among the 14 Big Ten teams.
The narrative around the Michigan offensive struggles can change, though, if the Wolverines come out and play well at Wisconsin on Saturday. But former Michigan Heisman Trophy winner and ESPN analyst Desmond Howard seems to have his doubts.
“At some point, you have to go out there and execute,” Howard said on ESPN’s College Gameday on Saturday morning. “If you don’t see something better than what we’ve seen in the previous two games, it’s going to be a very long season.”
Howard did add that he expects the offense to open things up and “look very different” than what it was two weeks ago against Army.
ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit sounded a little more hopeful and actually said that it doesn’t really matter how the offense “looks” more than the results.
“This isn’t Army’s defense, this isn’t Middle Tennessee,” Herbstreit said. “They’re playing a real defense on the road. So, this is just about surviving and trying to get out there with a win type of game. I don’t care how their offense looks.”
No. 11 Michigan will face No. 13 Wisconsin at 12 pm ET on Saturday. The Wolverines haven’t won at Wisconsin since 2001.
