The B1G has reinstated the 2020 college football season, but two Michigan State players are still electing to opt out of the upcoming season.
Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker told reporters on Wednesday that offensive linemen Jordan Reid (senior) and Justin Stevens (freshman) have decided to opt out of the 2020 campaign. Both players had made the decision over the summer, when the season was in jeopardy of being played.
“As of right now, those two, they are still opted out,” Tucker confirmed on Wednesday. “Obviously, like I’ve said before, we’re supporting our players and their decisions to be in or to opt out. We’ll just see how it continues to play out.”
Two other players, defensive end Jacub Panasiuk and linebacker Marcel Lewis, have decided to return to the team for the season. The Spartans are scheduled to open the 2020 year against Rutgers on Oct. 24.
Many players have been forced to make difficult decisions regarding the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
