Detroit high school football player dies days after collapse during conditioning practice

Sad news out of Detroit this morning as a high school football player has died five days after he collapsed during conditioning.

Stephen Sylvester was a 15-year old sophomore at Detroit Catholic Central. Sylvester was on the 53 man varsity roster for this upcoming season.

Detroit Catholic Central released a statement following the death of Sylvester. The Detroit News ran the statement.

“We are incredibly saddened by the passing of Stephen,” a statement from Detroit Catholic Central read. “He was a bright young man, and a valued member of the school community. At this point we ask for some privacy for the family, our students, our faculty, and our staff while we work to support all of those so intimately impacted by this loss.”
