Dick Butkus made an appearance in the Illinois-Chattanooga game. He was seen smiling in the stands watching his former team play.

Butkus played OL and LB for the Fighting Illini in college from 1962-1964. He also remained in the state of Illinois to play professionally, playing for the Chicago Bears from 1965-1973.

Illinois got the job done against Chattanooga and finished undefeated against non-conference opponents. The Fighting Illini are now 3-1 with Wisconsin up next on the schedule.

Butkus should love how the defense is playing right now. Illinois is allowing just 8 points per game through the first four games of the season. The Fighting Illini are also holding teams to 147.3 yards passing and 87 yards rushing per game.

The Illinois great made a joke about the picture of him at the game. He made sure to mention how Chattanooga had not scored any points.

“That feeling when the opposing team has scored zero points, thus far,” said Butkus.

We’ll see how Butkus is feeling after Illinois gets through the rest of its B1G schedule.
