Dillon Gabriel was never one to back down from a challenge at UCF, Oklahoma or Oregon, and he’s not about to do it at the NFL level, either.

The former Ducks star quarterback realized his NFL dreams last month when the Cleveland Browns took him in the 3rd round with the 94th pick in the draft. Gabriel also realized that with that dream would come heavy competition to see the field, and the plot thickened the next day when the Browns drafted another quarterback exactly 50 picks later.

His name is Shedeur Sanders, the former Colorado star QB whose draft stock fell from a possible 1st-round selection all the way to the 5th round and the 144th pick overall. Sanders’s draft plight was covered left and right on draft weekend, and when he was finally taken, he happened to end up exactly where Gabriel did — Cleveland.

Not surprisingly, Gabriel was asked for his reaction to the whole Sanders thing at this weekend’s rookie minicamp.

Also not surprisingly, Gabriel is embracing the challenge and his new, very high-profile teammate.

“Yeah, I love it,” Gabriel told reporters on Saturday, via quotes distributed by the Browns. “You know, I love it because of who it is. I think just for us both, you can learn from one another. But also, it’s not just us two in the room. At least for right now (during rookie minicamp) it is, but, you know, going into the year, Kenny (Pickett), Joe (Flacco) and even Deshaun (Watson), just a bunch of guys who played a bunch of ball that we can all learn from one another.”

For anyone who was hoping for a rookie quarterback controversy between Gabriel and Sanders, they are out of luck. Right now, Gabriel is loving having another rookie QB alongside him, as the 2 former college stars get their feet wet at Browns minicamp this weekend.
