Donovan Edwards struggled with a disappointing performance on the ground this season. Fortunately, he battled through and never wavered before delivering a performance for the ages in Houston.
Entering the CFP National Championship, Edwards had less than 400 yards rushing and just 3 touchdowns on the season. He came through against Washington, delivering a pair of 40-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter.
After the game, Edwards said he visited his therapist in the week leading up to Houston to “let everything go.” It set the table for the running back to rise above the adversity and seize the moment.
“I saw a therapist. I slacked like right after Nebraska. I was still okay but everything was clustered for me. In the past week, that’s when I saw my therapist again, and I just let everything go,” explained Edwards. “It’s a testament to being able to overcome adversity and rise from it. Every day is going to happen for a reason but the blessings are going to multiply.”
Though Blake Corum went on to win Offensive MVP honors, Edwards finished with 104 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 6 carries. He helped ignite Michigan to a 17-10 halftime lead before Corum sealed the deal in the 34-13 win.
It was a challenging season for Donovan Edwards.
The Michigan RB saw a therapist to help him navigate it.
