Donovan Edwards produced one of the most legendary late-season performances in Michigan history a season ago. That performance was made even more incredible due to Edwards sporting a cast on his right hand.

Despite the cast, Edwards rushed for a career-high 216 yards in a massive win over Ohio State. The star running back also iced the game late with a pair of long touchdown runs.

While the cast drew a lot of attention, Edwards recently claimed that was not the only injury he played through last season. During an interview with Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit, Edwards revealed he played the majority of the 2022 season with a partially torn patellar tendon.

“I had played through a partially torn patella,” Edwards said during Wolverine Weekend at Grand Traverse Resort. “With that, I think it was torn since the beginning of the season. Against Hawaii, I really aggravated when I had a catch going up the sideline… I came down really weird and felt something really wrong in my knee. I found out it was partially torn, missed like the next 2 games. Came back against Iowa, feeling really good so like the whole year I was just battling through that.”

As for his current health, Edwards does not believe he’s back to 100% quite yet. Fortunately, he projects to be back to full speed before summer camp.”

“We’ve got like 7 more weeks until summer camp starts. I will be 100% before then,” said Edwards.

For much of the season, Edwards was a key backup to Blake Corum as Corum embarked on a potential Heisman Trophy campaign. Corum’s knee injury against Illinois opened the door for a more featured role for Edwards late in the season.

After his heroics against Ohio State, Edwards rushed for 185 yards in the B1G Championship Game and 119 in the College Football Playoff semifinals. He finished the season with 991 rushing yards and 9 total touchdowns, and Edwards could be in line for a larger role in 2023.
