Rashan Gary has gone on record multiple times saying that he “knows” he’s the best player in this year’s NFL Draft. The former five-star defensive line doesn’t lack any confidence when it comes to his ability on the field.

But NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. doesn’t have that same faith in the former Michigan star. In fact, Kiper believes Gary could be one of the busts of the upcoming draft.

In a recent interview on Get Up! Kiper pointed to Gary’s production in three years at Michigan as to why he could be a bust at the professional level.

“Some think he could go 10-28,” Kiper said. “That range is because he’s a phenomenal athlete with limited production, limited sack production, 10 sacks in 34 games. Will he be able to snap his finger? Will the light go on in the NFL to allow him to become a sack artist? Up to this point, he hasn’t been.”

Gary’s numbers haven’t been eye -popping through his career at Michigan, totaling 10 sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss in three years with the Wolverines. Still, he’s been the focal point of several opposing offensive lines. Just his presence has allowed his teammates to feast on opposing quarterbacks — a huge reason why Michigan has had one of the top defenses in the country over the last three years.

Does that presence translate to the NFL, though? Or perhaps the better question, when the offensive line isn’t zeroing in on him, will Gary be able to produce better numbers?

Those are questions we won’t have any answers to for a few years, but clearly Kiper thinks that Gary still has something to prove.
