Drew Allar and the Penn State offense struggled at times against Michigan in the first half of Week 11. Fortunately, the group produced some clutch opportunities late in the first half to cut into Michigan’s lead.

Trailing 14-3 and headed toward halftime, Allar delivered a couple of clutch 4th-down conversions. The first came on 4th-and-6 from Michigan’s 37-yard line by finding Kaden Saunders for 13 yards.

The second conversion included some trickery. Facing 4th-and-1 from the 15-yard line, Allar pitched to Kaytron Allen before Allen pulled up to throw the ball. Though not an explosive play, Allen found Allar for a 4-yard pickup and the first down.

It was certainly a gutsy call on 4th-and-short, but it paid off for James Franklin:

On the very next play, Allar and the offense caught Michigan off guard with a QB draw. Allen was up the field to deliver a crucial block while Allar found the end zone from 11 yards out.

Penn State went for a 2-point conversion and failed, but the touchdown makes it 14-9, Michigan, at the break:

After a strong defensive start to the game, Penn State is somewhat lucky to be down just 5 points at the break. Allar completed just 3 passes and is 3-for-7 for 31 yards entering halftime but has 5 carries for 28 yards and the touchdown.
