Drew Allar is officially stepping into the spotlight as Penn State’s quarterback of the future. Following the Rose Bowl, the former 5-star prospect should be the starting QB for the Nittany Lions in 2023.

In Monday’s Rose Bowl, Sean Clifford started — and shined — in one final start for his collegiate career. Clifford eventually captured offensive MVP honors in the game with an efficient passing night and 2 touchdowns.

Allar eventually replaced Clifford late in the blowout victory but recorded just one pass attempt with an incompletion. The two QBs also shared an emotional moment late in the win.

After the game, Allar discussed the embrace shared between the two. He said he was glad to be involved with Clifford’s journey and that the two didn’t even say anything in the moment.

“It was something special. I’m just glad I was a part of his journey because he’s going to do great things in football and off the field,” said Allar. “We didn’t even say anything. We just embraced each other.”

With Allar officially at the helm and a number of key pieces returning to the offense, it will be interesting to see how Penn State looks moving into the post-Clifford era.
