Drew Brees announces retirement from NFL following 20-year career

Drew Brees has made it official.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback announced via his personal Instagram page that he is retiring from the NFL. The former Purdue star and record-setting quarterback for the Chargers and New Orleans Saints is hanging it up after an illustrious career.
“After 20 years as a player in the NFL and 15 years as a Saint, it is time I retire from the game of football. Each day, I poured my heart & soul into being your Quarterback. Til the very end, I exhausted myself to give everything I had to the Saints organization, my team, and the great city of New Orleans,” wrote Brees. “I am only retiring from playing football, I am not retiring from New Orleans. This is not goodbye, rather a new beginning. Now my real life‘s work begins!”

Brees spent 20 years in the NFL, including 15 with the Saints. He was a 13-time pro-bowler, was named the 2006 Walter Payton Man of the Year, and won one Super Bowl.
Brees finishes his time in the league with over 80,000 passing yards to go with 571 touchdowns. He is the NFL’s current all-time leader in passing yards and ranks second in passing touchdowns.
