Drew Brees explains decision to help coach Purdue in bowl game, answers if gig is a one-time deal

Drew Brees is one of the more famous Purdue alumnus in recent years. The former Purdue QB went on College GameDay Monday to talk about whether coaching is something he wants to do in the future.
The Boilermakers will be facing LSU on Monday in the Citrus Bowl. Brees will be interim assistant HC and help interim HC Brian Brohm before Ryan Walters officially takes over as head coach. Brees stated that the decision was simply because of his love for the university.
“First and foremost, I’m doing this for Purdue University because I love my school. I love my school, and obviously, there was a transition period from the B1G Championship Game to this bowl game… Immediately I thought, look we’ve got a bowl game to play, we’ve got a bowl game to go win, and these guys deserve the best opportunity and best experience there.
“I called up Purdue and said if you need me, I’m ready. They said internally they had been having the same conversation, so let’s do it.”
Brees played at Purdue from 1997-2000. Brees compiled 11,792 yards passing and 90 touchdowns during his time there.
Purdue and LSU meet in the Citrus Bowl Monday at 1 p.m. ET on ABC.
