Dwayne Haskins’ estate reached a “partial settlement” on Friday in its lawsuit against the driver, the owner, and the broker of the dump truck that struck and killed the former Ohio State NFL quarterback in April 2022, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The lawsuit — which still has 10 other defendants in the case — claims that Haksins was drugged, robbed, and extorted by a man and three women in the hours before he was killed, according to the AP report. The family said it happened at a hotel in Boca Raton, Florida, at an upscale golf driving range, at a bar, and at a nightclub.

According to the AP, the suit alleges the pickup truck Haskins had rented had a mechanical defect that caused it to run out of gas. It also alleges the Department of Transportation in the state of Florida didn’t properly maintain or light the road Haskins was on when he was struck, or post a lower speed limit while construction work was being done. The suit also claims that a temporary sign in the area blocked visibility on the highway.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio obtained a copy of the civil complaint and outlined each of the allegations against the defendants in the case.

Toxicology reports showed that Haskins was legally drunk when he was hit by the truck.

Haskins enjoyed remarkable success as Ohio State’s quarterback in 2018, when he threw for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns. He led the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record, a Big Ten title, and a Rose Bowl victory over Washington.
