Dwayne Haskins may have been a first-round draft pick, but he still has a ways to go before landing a starting job.
The former Ohio State star signal-caller was drafted 15th overall by the Washington Redskins in this year’s NFL Draft. Now he is in training camp and getting ready for his first NFL action.
Washington will begin preseason action on Thursday and released the team’s first unofficial depth chart on Sunday. Unfortunately for Haskins, he was listed as the third-string quarterback. Colt McCoy was listed as the starter on the first depth chart with Case Keenum slotted as the backup.
Obviously, Haskins has yet to see any NFL game action with the Redskins and could impress quickly once inserted. There is still a long way to go before Week 1 of the regular season, and it is entirely possible that he will land the starting job by the end of the preseason. But for now, he will slot in behind the two veterans on the depth chart.
