Nebraska’s baseball team is setting itself up for future success. We’re not talking about the near future, though.

On Tuesday, the Huskers received a verbal commitment from infielder and pitcher Beau Peterson, who will be a member of the 2026 recruiting class. If you’re doing the math, that puts Peterson in 8th grade.

Peterson made the announcement with a post on Instagram.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and baseball career at the University of Nebraska,” Peterson wrote on Instagram. “Doesn’t stop now. I need to keep working and keep my ground and fit in.”

According to the Omaha World-Herald, college coaches are not permitted to reach out to potential prospects that young. Peterson’s father, David, called  Nebraska’s staff and his son attended the program’s prospect camp. Peterson walked away with an offer.

Peterson, a native of Overland Park, Kansas, enjoyed a successful run during the BCS National Championship in Florida. He connected on 15-of-18 at bats and also has his fastball zipping across the plate at 86 miles per hour.

From the sound of it, Nebraska has received a commitment from quite a talented prospect. The Huskers just have to wait five years before he gets to Lincoln.
