Early season conference games highlight B1G’s release of 2020, 2021 schedules
Who wants more B1G conference games to start the season? Like it or not, that’s the direction the league is headed in the near future.
The B1G released conference schedules for the 2020 and 2021 seasons on Tuesday, with a few noticeable alterations to the tradition scheduling system. There’s a heavy emphasis on league play earlier in the year.
Three B1G games are scheduled to start the season in 2020 and four will be played in Week 1 of the 2021 campaign.
In 2020, there will be three Big Ten league games on Labor Day weekend. In 2021, there will be four.

Here’s the list of games that are scheduled to kickoff the season in 2020 and 2021:
2020
- Northwestern vs. Michigan State
- Purdue vs. Nebraska
- Indiana vs. Wisconsin
2021
- Indiana vs. Iowa
- Michigan State vs. Northwester
- Ohio State vs. Minnesota
- Penn State vs. Wisconsin
The B1G season started a little early list year, as Ohio State and Indiana kicked off in Week 1 in Bloomington. It was one of the most highly-anticipated games of opening weekend.
Starting the year with conference play has become a popular approach because of the importance it emphasizes on the first week of the season. And with the growing interest in quality matchups early in the season, it was an easy decision for the B1G to make.
