East Carolina, Marshall delaying season opener due to COVID-19

Another team from the state of North Carolina has been forced to move a game on its schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Thursday, East Carolina announced that its season opener against Marshall scheduled for Sept. 12 will be delayed due to COVID-19. Earlier this week, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech announced that their Sept. 12 showdown has been pushed back to Sept. 26.
A date for the rescheduled matchup between East Carolina and Marshall has not been released at this time. However, in its official statement, ECU said it’s hopeful that the game can be rescheduled for 2020.
ECU Athletics Director Jon Gilbert announced today the football game against Marshall on September 12 in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium will be postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are disappointed we won’t be able to host Marshall for our season-opener, but our top priority remains the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans and our community,” said ECU AD Jon Gilbert. “[Marshall AD] Mike Hamrick and Marshall have been tremendous to work with as we work to reschedule the game.”
East Carolina will now open the season on Saturday, Sept. 26 against UCF. Marshall is still scheduled to open the 2020 campaign on Sept. 5 against Eastern Kentucky.
