Chalk up another victory to Ohio State over some of the premier programs in the Midwest.

Wednesday morning, Ryan Day and his staff received a verbal commitment from three-star linebacker Mitchell Melton. The Olney, Maryland prospect is the 17th player joining the Buckeyes’ 2020 class.

Melton is a talented linebacker who was one of Ohio State’s top targets at the position. He’s the second linebacker to pledge to the Buckeyes, along with four-star recruit Cody Simon. Melton made his announcement via Twitter.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Melton was one of the top 20 players out of Maryland and is one of the 50 best linebackers this cycle. He was a priority target for several big programs in the Midwest and on the East Coast.

Melton received 22 offers, but picked the Buckeyes over offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Maryland and Pitt, primarily. He also received interest from Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Purdue, Rutgers, Ole Miss and several other progams.

The most recent addition for the Buckeyes adds even more separation between their recruiting class and Michigan’s, which is currently the second-best in the B1G. Ohio State is comfortably sitting in the No. 4 spot nationally.
