Trey Sermon broke Eddie George’s single-game program rushing record in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday, rushing for 331 yards in the 22-10 victory.
After the game, George gave Sermon a shoutout on Twitter:
@treyera Congratulations on breaking the single-game rushing record!! Eat, young man, Eat!!!

George’s record was 314 yards, which came in 1995 in a victory over Illinois.
Record aside, this was a massive game from Sermon that came at the perfect time. The Buckeyes would have been lost without him, as this was arguably Justin Fields’ worst performance in college.
Fields completed just 12-of-27 passes for 114 yards and two interceptions. He threw for just 13 yards after halftime, but Sermon’s production allowed Ohio State to still able to pull away from Northwestern.
Sermon, a grad transfer from Oklahoma who once scored against the Buckeyes back in 2017, was named the game’s most outstanding player. He helped OSU get to a staggering 305 rushing yards after halftime.
Thanks to Sermon’s control on the game and the Buckeyes’ defense, Ohio State out-scored Northwestern 16-0 in the second half.
Ohio State will learn its fate in the College Football Playoff on Sunday.
