Eddie George reveals how his Heisman Trophy was broken by airport security

Eddie George has one of the most unique stories in college football history to tell. He’s the only player to win the Heisman Trophy…and then break it.
But the former Ohio State and NFL running back says it wasn’t his doing. An issue with airport security after he earned college football’s highest individual honor was what led to George to getting the trophy replaced.
In a recent interview with Barstool Sports, the newly-hired head coach of Tennessee State was ready and willing to tell everyone how his Heisman Trophy was broken. Below is the 2-minute clip of George telling the story:

That had to be an incredibly frustrating moment for George, who had just posted one of the most impressive seasons for a running back in Ohio State’s history.
During his Heisman season in 1995, George rushed for 1,927 yards and 24 touchdowns on 328 carries, maintaining an impressive 5.9 yards per carry average. He also totaled 417 receiving yards on 47 catches and had 1 touchdown reception.
Fortunately, all was made right with George receiving a replacement Heisman Trophy after his had been busted up. And now you know the real story behind how the most prestigious award in sports was broken.
