The college football season doesn’t kick off for another four months, but it’s never too early to get a look at some preseason rankings.
This week, CBS Sports released its post-spring top 25 poll, giving us all something to discuss over the next several months. And you might be surprised to learn that more than half of the B1G is represented in this way-too-early ranking.
Eight B1G teams were listed in the top 25 of CBS Sports’ poll, with two of those teams ranked in the top 10. None of those squads cracked the top five.
Here’s a look at which B1G teams CBS is highest on at this point in the offseason:
- No. 6 Ohio State
- No. 9 Michigan
- No. 13 Wisconsin
- No. 17 Nebraska
- No. 20 Penn State
- No. 23 Minnesota
- No. 24 Northwestern
- No. 25 Iowa
Ohio State and Michigan falling in the top 10 is now surprise, as both teams hit double-digit win totals a season ago. They’ll both be viewed as the top teams in the B1G East once again.
Somewhat surprising is Nebraska at No. 17 after a 4-8 season in 2018. The Huskers are expected to take a huge leap forward in 2019, but a top 25 ranking at this point might be a bit of a reach.
Wisconsin at No. 13, after an 8-5 season and losing four starters on the offensive line and a slew of talented defenders, might be a bit optimistic, too. Then again, the Badgers typically reload seamlessly.
Penn State ended last year with a 9-4 mark and Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa finished the 2018 campaign with winning records and won their respective bowl games, too.
