This might be one of the coolest stories involving Ohio State that you’ll read.

Tuesday afternoon, the website Eleven Warriors announced that it had raised enough money to erect a statue of legendary Ohio State head coach Woody Hayes in Newcomerstown, Ohio, his hometown.

Eleven Warriors is a website dedicated to Ohio State athletics, with a heavy focus on Buckeyes football.

According to Eleven Warriors, the venture started two years ago in an effort to pay proper respect to Hayes. After receiving over $40,000 from hundreds of donations, the statue has turned from a dream into reality.

Here’s an excerpt from the most recent post regarding the statue on Eleven Warriors:

We weren’t sure it would work, but today, we’re happy to report that it did. Hundreds of donors stepped forward to contribute more than $40,000 to the project, we lined up renowned sculptor Alan Cottrill, and partnered with the Newcomerstown Historical Society.

The dedication will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin will be in attendance. Admission is free.

This is certainly a cool moment for Eleven Warriors, Ohio State, the Hayes Family and Newcomerstown.
