Urban Meyer’s decision to retire following the Rose Bowl is having an understandable ripple effect on the recruiting trail.
The announcement may have caught some by surprise, but Meyer is leaving Ohio State following the Rose Bowl. In his departure, offensive coordinator Ryan Day will be promoted to head coach after serving as the acting head coach during Meyer’s three-game suspension earlier this season.
Day will likely keep the Buckeyes rolling right along, but there has been some reactions among Ohio State commits. One player who has decided to re-open his recruitment following Meyer’s announcement is Lejond Cavazos.
Cavazos is a 4-star S from the 2020 class out of Florida. He is ranked as the No. 9 safety in the country for 2020 on the 247 Sports Composite Rankings and the No. 30 player out of the state of Florida.
Cavazos shared his announcement in a note on Twitter. He acknowledged that Ohio State will remain high on his list of schools, but Cavazos felt the need to explore other options following the change at head coach.
