Emeka Egbuka is looking to post another 1,000-yard season with the Ohio State offense. Unfortunately, he missed practices in the spring while recovering from an injury.

Over the weekend, Egbuka discussed that absence and said the decision was made with Ohio State’s trainers to recover from some injury issues sustained during the season. Fortunately, he does not expect any drawbacks when camp comes around.

“I was just battling a couple of things, some things that happened to me last season,” Egbuka said in an interview with Eleven Warriors. “But I’m getting back healthy now. With all the amazing trainers we have, we decided it was best to take that spring off and then come back stronger in the fall. So I’m excited to get back in pads again and play football.”

“If camp started today, I’d be playing in it,” explained Egbuka. He also said summer workouts “have been going great,” and “leadership has been strong… with the team showing lots of heart.”

The star wide receiver was also asked about the ongoing quarterback battle between Devin Brown and Kyle McCord. Egbuka said he’s a believer in both players and ultimately sees the QB competition benefitting both guys when the season rolls around.

“My confidence level in both is huge, they’re both my guys, best friends with both of them,” said Egbuka. “I’m excited to see what they can do. I’m looking forward to this competition, I think it’s gonna make both of them better.”

Emeka Egbuka’s performance

A season ago, Egbuka delivered 74 catches for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns for an average of 15.6 yards per catch. On the majority of programs, those numbers would be team-best, but he finished second in the Ohio State offense behind Marvin Harrison Jr.

While a new QB provides some areas of concern for the offense, Ryan Day and Brian Hartline should have the unit humming in the fall. Another elite group of wideouts and key running back pieces returning have the Buckeyes well-equipped for another elite offense.
