With a majority of teams closing out their spring practice schedule, the focus has shifted forward to the start of the 2019 college football season. Yes, even if there’s still four months until kickoff.
This week, ESPN has released its College Football Playoff predictor as well as Football Power Index (FPI) top 10 rankings. With a couple months until the season starts, only one B1G team is represented in the two preseason predictions: Michigan.
In the predictor, Michigan was given the third-highest percentage in college football to earn one of the four bids, coming in at 41 percent. Clemson and Alabama were at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Georgia rounded out the top four.
Michigan comes in at No. 5 in ESPN’s early FPI. Once again, it’s the only B1G team listed.

- Alabama
- Georgia
- LSU
- Michigan
- Oklahoma

It’s a little surprising that other traditional B1G powers like Penn State, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin weren’t represented, but a few programs are coming off less-than-impressive seasons while others are dealing with significant losses.
Some are dealing with both.
There’s still a long way until the season starts, but ESPN is a huge fan of Michigan, at least early on.
