ESPN updated its Football Power Index (FPI) top 25 rankings on Sunday morning, and six teams from the Big Ten Conference have made an appearance — three coming in the top-10.
Michigan leads all B1G teams at No. 4 — the same as its College Football Playoff ranking from a week ago — after taking care of business in New Jersey, running through Rutgers 42-7 as expected. The Wolverines will play their final home game of the season next week against Indiana before traveling roughly 200 miles south to take on Ohio State in front of what will likely be a College GameDay-induced crowd.
Though the FPI likes Michigan to beat Ohio State and ultimately win the conference, the Buckeyes — who land at No. 6 in the rankings — may have something to say about that after all. Despite struggling in what seems to be half of their nine wins, the Bucks looked strong on defense and special teams in the second half of an important 26-6 win at Michigan State over the weekend. Did Urban Meyer make the appropriate adjustments — and were they in enough time with just two weeks remaining before The Game?
Here’s the full list of Big Ten teams in the FPI top 25 as we turn our attention to Week 12:
4. Michigan (9-1; LW: No. 4)
6. Ohio State (9-1; LW: No. 6)
8. Penn State (7-3; LW: No. 7)
15. Iowa (6-4; LW: No. 13)
24. Michigan State (6-4; LW: No. 17)
25. Wisconsin (6-4; LW: unranked)
Although it comes in No. 41 in the latest FPI rankings, it’s noteworthy to point out that with its 14-10 road win at Iowa, Northwestern has clinched at least a share of its first Big Ten West title and has earned its first ever conference championship game berth. The Wildcats have won 13 of 14 conference games, including 10 straight against West opponents.
