ESPN updates FPI Top 25 after Week 8

Another Saturday is in the books and another week has passed in the college football season. We’re now eight weeks in and teams have passed the midway point in the year.
As of now, we have a decent outlook on what these teams really are. To take the human component out of the equation when diagnosing how good teams are, the ESPN has its FPI that places a number on exactly how “strong” a team is.

To this point, Alabama has held the top spot in the sport this season. However, that changed after what took place in Week 8:

- Florida
- Utah
- Washington
- Michigan
- Iowa State

And there it is. Ohio State has finally overtaken Alabama for the top spot. What’s interesting even more so (potentially) is that the Buckeyes hold a number of 31.7 next to their name compared to the Crimson Tide’s 29.9. That 1.8 point difference is fairly sizeable.
The Buckeyes buried Northwestern on Saturday, as expected, while the Crimson Tide took care of Tennessee by 22 points. Should Alabama have won by more? Probably. But that big of a switch is intriguing.
The Big Ten has six teams in the most recent top 25 which isn’t too different from previous weeks (six last week). Another note near the top for the B1G is that Wisconsin was No. 5 last week and Penn State was No. 8. Now, the Badgers are No. 10 and the Nittany Lions are No. 7.
