ESPN’s David Pollack: ‘Justin Fields is going to put up stupid numbers’

Anticipation for the start of the Justin Fields era at Ohio State is really high. The former five-star and Georgia quarterback brought sky-high expectations with him when he arrived in Columbus.
ESPN analyst David Pollack is all in on the sophomore gunslinger.
Fields saw limited action in his one season at Georgia, throwing 39 passes in the 2018 campaign. All we’ve seen of him at Ohio State is a spring game performance, which provides a pretty small sample size.
But Pollack believes Fields is the real deal, and thinks he can put up some ridiculous numbers as the Buckeyes quarterback.
“Justin Fields is going to put up stupid numbers, Pollack said on College Football Live. “It’s not all to do with Justin Fields, but how about the weapons around him? We know he’s going to have great weapons. I’m just telling you, this kid is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds. He runs with some angst, some hatred in his heart. He is going to be more J.T. Barrett than Dwayne Haskins, and they’re going to count on him running the football. He’s going to spread it around to weapons. Highlight plays and video-game numbers will be put up in Columbus, Ohio.”
It’s not just the fact that Fields brings a tremendous skill set to Ohio State, but that head coach Ryan Day helped Dwayne Haskins become one of the best quarterbacks in the country. With Fields and Day working together, who knows what the possibilities are.
Ohio State always had productive offensive seasons under Urban Meyer. Whether or not Day can replicate that is yet to be seen (obviously). But with Fields under center, the Buckeyes appear to be in great shape.
