Ahead of Saturday’s Michigan vs. Ohio State game, one of the biggest games of the season and arguably the best rivalry in college football, Stephen A. Smith and Sam Acho debated what the actual best rivalry in college football is.

Smith went the SEC route, stating that Auburn and Alabama have the best rivalry, citing the competitive nature of the rivalry as evidence. Though Auburn has taken a step backward in recent years, the two teams have been competitive for most of this century.

Acho went the B1G route, giving the nod to Michigan-Ohio State.

“It’s Michigan and Ohio State, it’s not even close,” Acho said. “Here’s why: Two reasons. The first reason, they don’t even say the name of each other’s team. They call it The Game. You saw the joy, the anticipation, the elation and the passion last year when Michigan was able to beat Ohio State. Consistently, it’s two top-5 teams consistently playing each other.”

Ohio State and Michigan will certainly be more competitive than Alabama and Auburn this year, but is it the best rivalry in college football? It probably depends on if you ask an SEC fan or a B1G fan.
