ESPN’s FPI is predicting the division races in the B1G, and the system predicted the B1G East race coming out of the action in Week 2.
Through two weeks of the young season, the B1G East is undefeated with all 7 teams posting identical 2-0 records. Despite every team having identical starts, the Football Power Index mainly sees a 4-team race to Indianapolis.
According to the FPI, Ohio State is still the heavy favorite with over a 69% chance of winning the East. Michigan is the second-place team but comes in at just over 16%.
Penn State and Michigan State are also included, but the Nittany Lions and Spartans are long shots according to the system. Here is how the FPI is predicting the B1G East:
- Ohio State – 69.2%
- Michigan – 16.4%
- Penn State – 7.7%
- Michigan State – 5.7%
That is not vastly different from the start of the season, though Ohio State is down from a 79.5% chance to win the division entering 2022. Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State have seen slight bump ups since the start of the season.
