ESPN’s FPI is predicting the College Football Playoff in 2022, and the system currently sees four heavy favorites to advance to the Playoff.

According to the Football Power Index, Ohio State and Alabama are near-locks to make the final four. Those two programs are given greater than an 80% chance to make the CFP. No other team is given above a 70% chance to make the field.

Behind the Buckeyes and Tide, Georgia and Clemson are the next programs with the best odds to make the Playoff. Those two teams are given at least a 50% chance of making the CFP.

Here are the top 10 teams by FPI odds to make the Playoff:

  • Ohio State – 81.3%
  • Alabama – 80.1%
  • Georgia – 67.6%
  • Clemson – 50.2%
  • Michigan – 37.3%
  • Tennessee – 23.3%
  • USC – 18.5%
  • Texas – 12.6%
  • Ole Mis – 10.3%
  • Penn State – 5.8%

Ohio State has been particularly impressive this season, rolling to a 6-0 record with a high-flying offensive attack and much-improved defense. The Buckeyes will try and use a Week 7 bye to get healthy at some key positions.

Alabama is also 6-0 but is coming off a tight win over Texas A&M. The Tide are dealing with an injury to Heisman winner Bryce Young and it is unclear when he might be able to play.

We’ll see how the Playoff race shapes up heading into the heart of October.
