ESPN’s FPI predicts every remaining game for Purdue

It’s been a pleasant start to the season for Jeff Brohm’s Purdue squad.
Brohm missed Week 1 and his team still managed to pull off a win against Iowa. Then, Brohm returned and saw his team hold on in a hard-fought victory against Illinois.
Sitting at 2-0, there are reasons for optimism amongst Boilermaker fans, but also some worry when looking at what’s coming for Purdue.
ESPN’s FPI recently updated its predictions of what’s going to happen for the Boilermakers. It looks tough in the near future but overall is positive.
Here is what the model predicts for Purdue when it comes to percentage chance to win:
- at Wisconsin – 6.3%
- vs. Northwestern – 34.9%
- at Minnesota – 60.5%
- vs. Rutgers – 73.6%
- vs. Nebraska – 54.2%
- at Indiana – 28.0%
Next week is obviously the toughest game on the schedule for Purdue, if the game even happens. Wisconsin seems to have a program-wide issue with positive COVID cases.
If the Boilermakers do find a way to win, that changes everything when looking at the landscape of the Big Ten West. And it seems a little more possible since Badger quarterback Graham Mertz won’t be available.
Then, it’s imperative for Purdue to defeat the easier teams on their schedule the rest of the way. Neither the Northwestern nor Indiana games are automatic losses. Things seem to be looking up for Purdue.
