ESPN’s FPI predicts Iowa’s chances of receiving a bowl bid through Week 8

Iowa won’t be fighting to make the College Football Playoff in 2022. Will the Hawkeyes even be bowl eligible?
According to ESPN’s FPI projections, the Hawkeyes are teetering the line of winning 6 games this season, hovering at 54.1%. Iowa (3-4) will need 3 wins over Northwestern, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska.
Iowa is coming off its worst loss in the Kirk Ferentz era since his 1st season back in 1999. Ohio State caused 6 turnovers and totaled 360 yards of offense en route to the 54-10 win. Offensively, the Hawkeyes mustered up a field goal and were held to 157 total yards, going 1-of-13 on 3rd-down conversions.
Currently, Iowa’s offense, led by Ferentz’s oldest son, Brian, ranks dead last in nearly every category among B1G programs. Nationally, the Hawkeyes are 131st in passing offense, 131st in total offense, 128th in scoring, and 127th in rushing. Northwestern is slightly ahead in the scoring aspect, averaging roughly 18.6 points per game compared to Iowa’s 14.
