Iowa is off to a great start after surviving two extended weather delays and a bitter rival in Ames Saturday.
The win pushed Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes to 3-0 on the season. And after going into the rivalry game a little banged up, Iowa enters its first bye week in solid shape.
The next game on the schedule will be Sept. 28 against Middle Tennessee before the Hawkeyes resume B1G play for the rest of the season. After starting 3-0 on the season, Iowa is undoubtedly one of the top contenders in the B1G West along with Wisconsin to start the season.

Entering the bye week, ESPN’s FPI reshuffled the win probabilities for the Hawkeyes a bit after holding off Iowa State. Most notably, trips to Michigan and Wisconsin are the games projected to give Iowa the biggest problems, but the Hawkeyes are also expected to be underdogs against Penn State.
Here’s how the rest of the schedule looks in terms of win probabilities, according to the FPI:
- Sept. 28 vs MTSU – 95.1%
- Oct. 5 @ Michigan – 33.5%
- Oct. 12 vs Penn State – 42.3%
- Oct. 19 vs Purdue – 87.6%
- Oct. 26 @ Northwestern – 72.2%
- Nov. 9 @ Wisconsin – 23.7%
- Nov. 16 vs Minnesota – 75.9%
- Nov. 23 vs Illinois – 90.0%
- Nov. 29 @ Nebraska – 56.8%
