ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of Iowa at Ohio State

ESPN’s Football Power Index is confident that Ohio State will easily handle Iowa in Columbus in Week 8.
According to FPI, the Buckeyes have a 95.5% chance to defeat the Hawkeyes. These teams last met in 2017, a game in which Iowa won by a score of 55-24. Ohio State leads the all-time series with 46 wins to Iowa’s 15.
The Buckeyes are the number 1 team in the country according to FPI, with a score of 28.7. This means that Ohio State would be expected to beat an average team on a neutral field by 28.7 points. Iowa is much lower on the FPI scale, with a score of 6.5.
The Hawkeyes sport one of the worst offenses in the FBS, ranking 127th in yards per game and 120th in points per game, averaging only 16.2. The Buckeyes, on the other hand, have one of the most efficient offenses, leading the league in points per game with 48.8.
The most points that Iowa has allowed all year is 27 in a loss to Michigan. Ohio State, on average, scores almost double that number. The Hawkeyes have been great on defense, but have yet to play an elite offense like the Buckeyes.
Both teams sport a top 10 scoring defense, with Iowa giving up 11.2 points per game and Ohio State giving up 15.7.
Ohio State is seeking to remain perfect, while Iowa is just hoping to stay afloat in a crowded B1G West.
