ESPN’s FPI predicts the winner of Rutgers-Boston College in Week 1

ESPN’s FPI predicts the winner of every college football game each season. Rutgers opens the 2022 season at Boston College.
The Scarlet Knights are entering Year 3 of Greg Schiano’s second stint as head coach. Rutgers went 5-7 in regular-season play in 2021, but still made a bowl game thanks to its APR and the Gator Bowl needing a team.
The Scarlet Knights go on the road to open the 2022 campaign. Unfortunately, ESPN’s Football Power Index predicts Schiano’s squad will not be returning to New Jersey with a victory. The FPI gives Rutgers just a 29.7% chance of getting the win in Massachusetts.
In the short term, things get better for Rutgers. The Week 2 home opener is against Wagner. In the long-term, however, the FPI’s outlook suggests a rough outlook.
The Boston College game is 1-of-8 in which the Scarlet Knights are projected to lose. With a tough conference schedule ahead, the Boston College matchup is one of the times Rutgers needs to prove the FPI wrong and pull the upset if it wants to go bowling again.
Saturday’s game is set for noon ET, airing on the ACC Network.
