Tensions will be boiling over on Saturday in Iowa City. ESPN’s Football Power Index has decided what team will be taking home the Heartland Trophy.
Wisconsin and Iowa battle for the trophy annually. The Badgers took home the trophy last season, beating Iowa 27-7 in Madison. The Badgers have dominated the Hawkeyes as of late, winning eight of the last ten meetings.
Both Wisconsin and Iowa are surging with win streaks coming into this game. Wisconsin and Iowa have won their last two games.
Jim Leonhard may be well on his way to removing the interim tag from his title if he can get the Badgers to a bowl game. Leonhard is 3-1 since taking over for Paul Chryst following the loss to Illinois.
Both teams are 5-4 through nine games. However, Wisconsin has the edge according to the FPI. Wisconsin is given a 51.3% chance to win compared to Iowa’s 48.7%.
With these B1G West opponents both on the cups of qualifying for a bowl game, the stakes are high in this game. The winner of this game will not only have six wins, but bragging rights for a whole year.
Kickoff from Kinnick Stadium will be at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1. Who will leave this game as the winner?
