The B1G race is bound to heat up quickly in conference play with 5 undefeated teams still standing in the conference.
Ohio State took an early loss in nonconference play against Oregon. Meanwhile, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa, Maryland, and Penn State have started the year 4-0.
The number of undefeated teams is bound to fall in Week 5 with the Terrapins and Nittany Lions meeting on Friday night. That game is expected to be a good one with Maryland playing much-improved ball in 2021.
When it comes to the conference race, ESPN’s FPI currently sees a three-team race for the trophy with Ohio State still leading that pack. The Buckeyes are the only team above 30% odds to win the conference with two other teams sitting above 20%.
In terms of the remaining undefeated teams, the FPI is not high on Penn State, Michigan State, or Maryland with each of those teams below 10% odds.
Here are the top 5 teams in terms of chance to win the B1G, per the FPI:
- Ohio State – 33.2%
- Michigan – 21.3%
- Iowa – 21.0%
- Penn State – 8.1%
- Michigan State – 7.2 %
Every other team sits below 5% chance to win the conference entering Week 5.
