ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit to call CFP semifinal remotely due to COVID-19

Kirk Herbstreit is being forced to adjust his schedule for the week due to COVID-19.

The popular analyst for ESPN and co-host of College GameDay announced via his Twitter account that he has tested positive for the coronavirus. Fortunately, Herbstreit indicated he feels okay and his family is doing well, but the positive test has altered his plans for the week.

Since he will be forced to undergo isolation measures, Herbstreit announced that he will be working the New Year’s Day edition of GameDay from his house. That is a method the show has used throughout the season for Lee Corso as he continues to broadcast from his home.

The real tricky part is that Herbstreit said he will also still be on the call for Friday’s Sugar Bowl game between Ohio State and Clemson. Obviously, it will be quite different calling a game from his house as opposed to the stadium, but it doesn’t sound like he was going to pass on this opportunity.

This will actually be the second time this season that Herbstreit is forced to call a game remotely. He also called the September game between Miami and Florida State after coming in contact with the virus the week of that game.
