According to ESPN’s Playoff Predictor, two Big Ten teams have a good shot at winning the 2020 national title.

Those teams are Ohio State and Wisconsin, who have a 23 percent and 7 percent chances, respectively at winning it all according to ESPN’s Playoff Predictor.

The Big Ten has benefitted from the other conferences already suffering major upsets so far this season. With perennial powers Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma already stumbling, the door is open for Big Ten teams to take advantage.

Ohio State seems especially poised to return to the College Football Playoff this season. The Buckeyes are No. 1 in ESPN’s SP+ metric and return plenty of quality starters from last season’s team, including quarterback Justin Fields. Ohio State’s last national title came in 2014.

Wisconsin currently sits at No. 6 in SP+ and are coming off a 10-4 campaign that included two losses to Ohio State and a narrow Rose Bowl defeat vs. Oregon. If the Badgers are able to make good on that 7 percent projection, it would be their first national title since 1942.

The Buckeyes will open their season by hosting Nebraska on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, Wisconsin’s 2020 campaign begins on Friday night vs Illinois as they look to avenge a last-second loss from the 2019 campaign.
