Even while visiting Notre Dame’s campus as a recruit, Charles Woodson had Michigan on his mind

There is always a fair amount of trash talking between Michigan and Notre Dame the week they play each other. That’s true even among ESPN alums.

In a video featured on the World Wide Leader’s college football Twitter account, former ESPN analyst and Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz shared some of the typical jokes he says when he meets Wolverine fans about Michigan being an easier school to get into than Notre Dame.

But then former Michigan cornerback and current ESPN analyst Charles Woodson responded with a story about his recruiting trip to Notre Dame.

Despite the visit, it doesn’t sound like Woodson gave the Irish much of a chance. During his Notre Dame recruiting trip, the cornerback recalls walking around the campus humming the Michigan fight song.

Woodson went on to have an incredible career, winning the Heisman Trophy as a junior in 1997. He remains the last defensive player to win college football’s most coveted award. Woodson also put together a Hall of Fame career in the NFL while playing for the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers.

Michigan will host Notre Dame in a key game for both programs at 7:30 pm ET on Saturday.
