Iowa may not be on the field on Saturday, but the best tradition in college football still continues.

No, the Hawkeyes weren’t taking the field at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday for the season-opening game, but members of the Iowa cheer squad and Iowa’s mascot showed up outside the venue to continue the Iowa Wave. Even though the stadium wasn’t packed to capacity, it was still special to see.

Below are some videos from the scene in Iowa City:

The Iowa Wave was a tradition that started at the beginning of the 2017 season, when Iowa hosted Wyoming. At the end of the first quarter of each home game at Kinnick Stadium, fans, players, coaches and officials all turn to the overlooking UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital and wave.

Even though it looks a little different, it’s still a special moment in Iowa City.
